Riverside Leisure Centre
Riverside Leisure Centre, Exeter, was the victim of a serious fire which broke out in the Health Suite in the main pool area. Amongst other areas, the roof cladding and steelwork were subject to severe smoke damage. Wardle Painters Ltd was appointed to help rejuvenate the leisure centre so that it could once again open all its facilities to local visitors.
The team was tasked with providing a user-friendly protective coating system that would attain excellent chemical resistance and could be applied with minimal disruption so that other parts of the leisure centre could remain open to the public throughout.
As such, even though no products used in this project were toxic, in line with health and safety measures, at the end of every working shift, areas directly adjacent to the paint works had to be vented and remain free from paint fumes.
With access to the project granted via fixed scaffolding, the team applied a non-harmful, water-based epoxy system to the roof steelwork and roof cladding successfully, meeting the client’s brief and rejuvenating the centre.
